The proof jacket whilst using the same artwork as the published book has totally different text. In the published version the back of the jacket contains reviews of previous books (as usual) but for the proof the back of the jacket and rear flap contain a Russian newspaper report about the filming of Dr No. On Fleming it says “Obviously American propagandists must be in a bad way if they need to have recourse to the help of a English free-booter - a retired spy who has turned mediocre writer.” Fleming replied “Ouch”.
Copies of this proof edition seem to come up for sale fairly frequently but most are lacking the dust jacket, perhaps less proof jackets were produced than proof books?
November 2015. A copy without dust jacket was sold by Heritage Auctions for $2125
